Have you noticed?

  • Rose Thun

Hello,

1>  Have you noticed that where you are shapes how you feel?

Yes, I have been writing that happiness varies widely across the US and where you live matters greatly. But it’s more than just which place you choose to live.  I often quote Jim Rohn’s “you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with”, but that is only part of the story.

I recently read that where you spend your time also influences your ideas of what’s possible and how you feel.

“People feel more extroverted, more agreeable, more conscientious, when they are in other places, compared to when they are at home,” she said, while “people feel more disorganized and chaotic when they are at home….When people spent time in social environments, they also felt more compassionate, open-minded and kind compared to when they were at home.”

Interesting, right?

Less related to our happy place, but important to share

2>   How is your sense of smell and taste?

I am curious how many people are losing their sense of smell and taste. I knew someone who’d lost her sense of smell and taste as a child horse-playing with her brothers. She ate Whatchamacallit bars most of the time because they were the most interesting textured food. But apparently a small percentage of people has this as an ongoing symptom after COVID. In case it helps, there is a nice free cookbook and description of the multiple types of anosmia. This download, Taste & Flavor, was developed originally for cancer patients who had these symptoms but I’m told they do help COVID symptoms too. I know two people who’ve experienced this after contracting COVID and am told these recipes help.

3>   If you are having health challenges, be aware of other surprises.

A recent article shows health shocks make you much more myopic and short term focused in your financial planning; and if this impacts you it might be worth consciously countering that tendency.

So given #1 above, where are you going to explore this week? If you’re staying home, then join the Summer Camp Special on Saturday July 17.

Best wishes,
Rose
