Go to bed
- Rose Thun
I think this post will make anyone who knows me well laugh out loud, but as the saying goes, we teach what we need to learn.
Today, I am suggesting you go to bed.
I am continuing this week’s theme to address health span and metabolic health, based on this devastating research reported by Tufts.
“Researchers evaluated Americans across five components of health: levels of blood pressure, blood sugar, blood cholesterol, adiposity (overweight and obesity), and presence or absence of cardiovascular disease (heart attack, stroke, etc.). They found that only 6.8 percent of U.S. adults had optimal levels of all five components as of 2017-2018.”
One of the big ways to enhance our health and well-being, is though sleep.
Recent Research underscores the profound impact of our sleep habits, particularly the significance of adhering to a consistent bedtime. A study funded by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute reveals that irregular sleep patterns, such as varying bedtimes and sleep durations, significantly elevate the risk for metabolic disorders, including obesity and high cholesterol.
I have wholeheartedly avoided this advice my entire life, and I hate that it’s true. I love pulling all nighters to get big ambitious projects done. My Dexcom continuous glucose monitor data over the past year proves to me it is undeniable- going to bed and waking up at consistent times are a straightforward yet powerful strategy to safeguard our metabolic health.
Sleep well.
