Appreciating loved ones

  • Rose Thun

It’s Valentine’s or Galentine’s Week and I’m kicking it off with a reminder of the book “The 5 Love Languages" by Gary Chapman. He writes that there are five different love languages and each person tends to show or feel love in very specific ways. If you’re not feeling your love language, you tend to feel unloved and unappreciated.

The languages are: kind words, helpful acts, gifts, shared time, and touch. He recommends showing care in ways that resonate most with loved ones to feel a closer connection.

If you’re needing some Valentines ideas, there is a new GPT in the AI playground, inspired by “The 5 Love Languages" by Gary Chapman, to suggest ways to show you care that should resonate most with your loved one. There is also a new Poem GPT. A card is coming tomorrow to download.

This may be a book you’ve heard of but never read, so if you’re curious here is a quick intro video, with Gary Chapman describing how he observed repeating patterns in counseling his clients that led to the 5 love languages and later a worldwide best-selling book. His work is used by chaplains and deployed military families, which led to ingenious ideas on how to handle physical touch and quality time when you’re apart from loved ones.
